The Portrait Bar
Martin Brudnizki designed The Portrait Bar to compliment his luxurious and exotic imagined world at The Fifth Avenue Hotel, a two Michelin Key boutique hotel in a refurbished Gilded Age mansion in NoMad. With Chef Andrew Carmellini’s NoHo Hospitality Group at the helm of food and beverage, and Café Carmellini as the hotel’s flagship, The Portrait Bar aimed to enchant and indulge guests with a rarified cocktail lounge experience for the well-heeled traveler.
To compliment the tasteful clutter of painted, photographed, and drawn portraits from all over the globe, materials and patterns were brought in from the wild kingdom and layered with rich print finishes and Victorian-era typefaces. While enjoying one of Bar Director Darryl Chan’s modern variations of classic cocktails, one might imagine themselves in the parlor of an eccentric globe-trotter. The Portrait Bar was named to Esquire’s 2024 list of ‘The Best Bars in America.’
