Sake No Hana

Tao Group’s flagship Japanese restaurant for the Moxy Bowery blends traditional ingredients and techniques with the supercharged magnetism of an izakaya.

To compliment the yankii-inspired interiors by Rockwell Group — a Japanese subculture obsessed with American rock’s rebellious hairstyles and clothing — the branding employs the culture’s strength in subtlety. Graphic elements were created with the idea of mending and renewal in the spirit of Bowery’s rich history of reinvention. The golden, craggy fractures of kintsugi and the tidy hatching of sashiko stitches were combined with brutalist typefaces and delicate washi papers to create an effective East meets West brand system.
